At Jake’s Cars, we passionately believe that taxi travel should be accessible to all. Our community in Billingshurst and area is delightfully diverse, and we aim to help everyone we can. Naturally that includes those with disabilities and limited mobility.

Our wheelchair accessible taxi is probably the busiest vehicle in our fleet, helping local residents get where they need, when they need to be there. Our accessible vehicle allows wheelchair users to travel in comfort for short or long journeys, with or without luggage. Our WAV (wheelchair accessible vehicle) can take your wheelchair plus up to 4 people.

Our accessible taxi driver is more than happy to help as much or as little as you want. They also understand that extra time will be required to ensure you can board the taxi without feeling rushed, and disembark at your own pace too.

Like all our taxis, our wheelchair accessible vehicle must be pre-booked. Due to its popularity, we suggest you book as soon as you have made your arrangements, and a minimum of 24hrs ahead if you can. We’ve only got one accessible taxi at the moment, so if you’re trying to book at short notice, it may simply not be available.

Accessible taxi to Billingshurst Station

Billingshurst station provides accessible trains direct to London Victoria, and is relatively accessible too. There is step-free access to each platform, and no ticket gates, making it more accessible than some we could name! However, there are a limited number of accessible parking spaces.

Our wheelchair accessible taxi can take you to the station and collect you without the worry of negotiating the car park, transferring from one platform to another, or accessing bus services. Your driver will drop you alongside the correct platform, as the only routes across the tracks are the footbridge or via the level crossing, which is bumpy for wheelchair or wheeled walker users.

According to the Southern website, station staff are available to help you on and off the train, and to move around the station generally. They also recommend you arrive early for your train:

“Whether you pre book assistance or travel on a ‘turn up and go’ basis, we recommend arriving 20 minutes prior to your train departing. This is to allow us to make sure arrangements are in place at your destination, or interchange, station such as the availability of staff and lifts. … A staff-operated ramp is required for step-free access between train and platform at this station.”
